This also allows for areas surrounding the surgical site to be generously illuminated.

This Successful Lighting Application series is from the University of Michigan Biomedical Science Research Building (BSRB) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This state-of-the-art 472,000 sq. ft. facility contains 240 biomedical research laboratory modules, 16 break rooms, 12 conference rooms, a 300 seat auditorium, and various other spaces to accommodate interaction between students and faculty.
